Littlevoice has partnered with Konica Minolta for over a 2 years, supporting the evolution of its multifunction printers (MFPs) and intelligent workplace technologies. As computing continues to shift from centralized data centres to distributed intelligence at the edge, devices across the workplace are becoming connected platforms that process data, run applications, and support smarter workflows closer to where work happens.

In this emerging edge-to-cloud world, Konica Minolta’s Workplace Hub represents a significant step forward—bringing together infrastructure, applications, and services into a unified platform that enables organizations to operate more efficiently and respond quickly to change. Built to connect workplace devices, data, and cloud services, the Workplace Hub reflects a broader transformation in how technology supports modern enterprises.

Within this context, Littlevoice worked closely with Konica Minolta’s teams in Japan and across Europe, collaborating with the industrial design studio Sabotage Design to explore the next generation of multifunction printer (MFP) experiences. Together we developed a new concept that brings industrial design, digital interfaces, and service thinking into a cohesive product vision.

From the physical form and ergonomics of the device to the touch-based interface and interaction flows, the collaboration refreshed the entire user experience, transforming the printer from a traditional office machine into an intelligent workplace platform connected to the broader edge-to-cloud ecosystem.

A core focus of the design was reducing waste and helping users achieve the best possible print results on the first attempt. Through research and iterative testing, the interface was redesigned to guide people—especially new or infrequent users—through clear, step-by-step choices that explain print settings in simple terms. By making options such as duplex printing, paper selection, and quality settings easier to understand, the system helps users avoid common mistakes, reducing unnecessary paper and ink usage while improving the quality of the final output.

This work spans the full spectrum of product design—from industrial design through UX, interface design, research, and design systems—supporting Konica Minolta’s transformation from a traditional hardware manufacturer into a global provider of intelligent workplace and IT services.

The multifunction printers are designed for simple handling and make it easy for users to do their jobs efficiently.
